King Bumi
This is another of the Fisher Price figures that my girlfriend got me at the last Christmas Toy Fair. It’s probably one of my favorite toys in the entire collection because of the huge fun factor built into it. If you’re a fan of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon, then you’re probably a fan of the Earthbenders. How can you not love the Earth Kingdom’s version of professional wrestling in “The Blind Bandit”? I’m still hoping that someone makes a “TOPH ROCKS!” T-shirt.
In the the episode, “The King of Omashu”, we’re introduced to another Earthbender; Aang’s childhood friend, Bumi, who has become King of his city. Bumi has grown into a wise, old man who is more than a little baked in the head. That doesn’t mean he’s not above kicking the Avatar’s butt, though. He takes off the vestments and he’s got the body of Bruce Lee under there. Sure it’s an old trick, but in the series it works.
The toy is representative of that Bumi, right before his battle with Aang in the bowels of Omashu.
The card is the same as Airbending Aang’s was, except this is blue with water motifs. King Bumi comes from the 2nd wave of figures, the Water series. There are paper inserts that front the bubble with a portrait of Aang in the Avatar state, and a swirl of water around the edge. It’s a nice, large display window and all the accessories are out front.
This being the second wave of figures, the back of the card naturally has many more characters in the “also available” area. War Paint Sokka, Avatar Roku, and Water Tribe Aang are a few of the “new” ones (these toys came out in 2007). The big ticket item here is The Blue Spirit, which seems to be going for astronomical prices on eBay. I would have loved to see it for Php 350.00 like this one, but no such luck. It’s no wonder though since it’s a far sight better than the Shymalan Blue Spirit.
Oh, well.
