DC Universe Classics
Knightfall Batman

It was the summer of 1993, right after the death of Superman, and the biggest news in comics was “Knightfall”, the downfall of the Dark Knight. After having his back broken by Bane, Bruce Wayne was replaced by Jean-Paul Valley, also known as the assassin for the Order of Saint Dumas called Azrael. Valley, clad in some slick duds that he built himself takes on Gotham’s crime lords, but in the end loses it and becomes increasingly unstable and violent. He eventually ends up destroying the reputation Batman had built up.

It sounds like a great story. Too bad I never got to read it.

For me, Batman is like DC’s counterpart to Tony Stark, another character whose toys I collect, but whose comic I never really read (the dork in me preferred X-Men). Normal guys who use technology and resourcefulness to fight the bad guys. Both have a plethora of gadgetry to choose from and clothes for every crime fighting occasion in their closets.

But unlike Iron Man, whose gotten copious amounts of plastic loving from Toy Biz and Hasbro, we never really got any cool Batsuit variants in the DC Universe Classics (DCUC) line. Sure we get the blue suit, the gray suit the black suit, etc., but it’s always been the same figure. You could argue that there has never been a real need for new head sculpts since Batman essentially has ONE expression for everything, but what about accessories? Wouldn’t it be cool if we got Batman in the Sonic Batsuit he used against The Predator?
